The auction for two hours of my social media consulting has gotten interesting.
This began as a test for FaceBook Flyers, but that part has fizzled. I got nothing from my $15 investment for the 7500 flyers over three days.
But the competition right here, on this blog, has gotten heated up as we approach the deadline of midnight tonight, Pacific Daylight Time. Currently, Wayne Mulligan has become the high bidder at $450. You are still welcome and encouraged to outbid him, but I am only able to match Rob's locked bid.
But Rob LaGesse, who has been the opening and most persistant bidder, just emailed me to say he will be traveling in a couple of hours and unavailable to bid until after midnight. He said that he was prepared to go to $1,000 to make sure he won.
This posed a few problems. First, the money received will go to RoomtoRead, a third world literacy project that inspired me after I read, founder John Woods' wonderful book, "Leaving Microsoft to Change the World. Second, I am not quite able to match a $1,000 pledge, which I've promised to do. Third, the bids need to be transparent, so Rob's pre-emptive offer needs to be out there for everyone to see. Fourth, Rob's persistence has been more than a little flattering and I've started to root for him, when I'm supposed to be objective.
So here's what I'm going to do. Rob, you are locked in at $500. Send me the check and I will match it and send it on to RoomtoRead. Wayne, you are high bidder right now at $450. If you win, I will not match you, but will forward you donation to RoomtoRead. That will give them nearly $1500, enough to build about half a library in Sri Lanka or to educate a few Cambodian girls for more than an entire year. Each year of learning increases family income by over 10%.
These children, through this highly efficient charity will be the third winners and the most deserving.
If anyone out there wants to match what is currently Wayne's bid, please post a Comment. Anyone, who wants to add a contribution through this, you are more than welcome. Anyone who has books suitable for children, please ship them directly to RoomtoRead, but let them know Global Neighbourhoods sent you.
