This is not the first time I have used the above headline. It was what I titled my very first blog post back in November 2003. I had no idea then how social media would change my life over these four years.
The title seems fitting because I am now an older dog, but in the past few days, I've been learning the new tricks of Twitter and video blogging. I have been on Twitter [shelisrael] for about 24 hours now and have had lots of fun. I've learned how to use it on my iPhone thanks to my pal Pat Phelan. But it will be a few days before I understand the personal networking and business value that Scoble and Jeremiah keep extolling.
But I'm getting really immersed in video blogging, in part, because I'm on the board of directors for YourTrumanShow. Their site has been in beta for several weeks, but they have a really big new announcement coming up at DEMO, my favorite entrepreneurial conference. So I have posted a few episodes. I call it "UpClose," because I am taking a very personal approach, more than I do on this blog. The most popular of my video posts has all of 15 views so far, and that is probably as it should be. Truman may be a site with a million users each have an audience of 25 friends watching. That's just fine with us. The Internet for us is more about sharing then promoting.
But I will get better. At least I hope I will.
Please take a look at my few brief episodes if you have time and inclination. Go to the beta site and search for "shel israel." Comments are buried way below. You can leave them here or there or email them to me. Be constructive, but please--be kind. I'm a newbie at this.
All these new tricks. Gotta go. Now where did Paula put those newspapers on the floor?
