Helzerman's one-liner about the FCC continuing the ban of cell phone in-flight, reflects my sentiments exactly: "Good news - we won’t soon have to listen to people yelling into their cell phones for entire flights."
I've written before that sometimes off is better than always on. Sometimes it makes more sense to think about what you are going to say before you actually say it. I've noticed that people seem to talk less on cell phones in restaurants than they used to a few years ago. When they get calls, many folk actually get up and walk outside.
Who among us misses the loud gabber at the table next to you? Who among us would enjoy hearing 300 people on an airplane all picking up their phones to tell someone who already knows it that the plane is on time to arrive at 4 pm?
Now Internet connection on an airplane? That's an entirely different story.
