Rick and I have both been so busy with other stuff, neither of us have had time to say much about our upcoming world tour. Our first discovery has been that world is not quite so small and flat as it looks in my Pocket World Atlas.
When you start counting hours in planes and miles between cities, it's a pretty big planet and really quite round. We want to meet people, sample cultures and have time to savor the experience we are about to have.
Our 23-day tour is now 33 days. We will remain north of the equator. Australia and South Africa will have to wait for a sequel trip. Asia and Europe turn out to be plenty big for our purposes. It remains an awesome undertaking, one most likely to change our views of a great many things. We will learn much about similarity and diversity in a connected world..
We have the master ticket in hand. Here's the schedule:
Aug 12-14 Tokyo
Aug. 14-16 Seoul,
Aug 16-20 Beijing, Hong Kong (w/possible side trip)
Aug. 20-24 Bangkok, (8/21 celebrate 62nd birthday)
Aug 24-26 Ho Chi Minh City
Aug. 26-28 Taipei
Aug. 29-31 Bombay, (possible side trip(s))
Aug. 31-XX Berlin
In Germany, we'll get an apartment, then take side trips to elsewhere in Europe, using trains as much as possible. On the agenda so far are visits to Amsterdam, London, Florence, Milan, Munich, Poland, Estonia and Paris. Strong additional possibilities are Dublin, Cork and Scotland. We may even split up for a couple of days
If you can see us in any of these cities and you have technology, ideas or passion on the subject of where the world is going, please let us know. Rick has been managing meeting so far and I'm actually not up to speed on who we are seeing. But there is still lots of open time.
