For those of you who have followed this project for a while, there was a period in which we were going to call this book "Blog or Die." I was the major proponent of it until Steve Streight wrote in that in some places, the situation is blog AND die. How unfortunately right he is. Denizen of oppressive cultures from Libya, to China to even Egypt are getting censored and tossed in the slammer, and in Iran, one blogger has been sentenced to 30 lashes after being imprisoned since last June. The Committee to Protect Bloggers is doing extraordinary work to build awareness of what is going on. They do an extraordinary job of tracking this oppression on a global basis.
I am so happy we listened to Steve. The old title would have proven a shallow insensitive wart on the face of a book that we are proud of. I'm also grateful to have written it in a country where the worst than can happen is that we get bad reviews.
