I have just loved writing Naked Conversations. I had planned to start writing my next book almost immediately after completion of this one and had an idea that had me just champing at the bit to begin. Unfortunately, the central character has decided that he would like to write about it himself, and it seems to me that a biographer would be unwise to compete with an autobiographer.
So I'm looking for an idea for a new book and I would love your help in coming up with a new idea. There are more than a few qualifiers to make me the right person to write it, many of which I have learned from this experience:
- My interest is in technology's impact on culture. I don't want to preach on the subject, just report on it. For example, I believe firmly that blogging will change business culture. This was the most interesting aspect of the story to me. So I am looking for a story that causes someform of disruption.
- Mass appeal. Book writing is not my intendend sideline. I want to be commercially successful. I want to write books that a great many people will buy, provided I do a good job of writing it.
- Story-telling. There are a great many ways to write a book. I do my best when I speak to a whole lot of people, accurately relate what they told me and then tell readers why it was intersting and what I think it means. I want a subject that can be the core to a simple story, well-told.
- Positive. It is my nature to be an optimist. I would rather write about subject that excite me and people that I learn from. I am a bad choice to write a hard-hitting, deep-digging expose.
- Blog-suitable. The people who told me that it would be Hell to write this book out here in the blogosphere. They were write. But blogging made this book better. It made me smarter and it helped me become a better writer. I want to blog my next book as well.
Got an idea? Please let me know. I'm going to miss doing this every day.
