Link to other people. That's a given in today's blog world, right? But why is linking so important? Well, a link does a lot of things:
1) It sends traffic.
2) It sends search engines.
3) It sends "Google juice." Most Web pages are assigned a "page rank" by Google. If a site with a high page rank links to a site that hasn't been ranked yet, it usually will ensure that the site being linked to will get a decent amount of Google page rank.
4) It makes an editorial comment. Whenever you link to something you are telling your readers that that site is worth their consideration.
The way we look at it, a link is a gift. Getting a link makes us happy. Use that to your advantage. If you want to make someone happy, link to them. If you want to point out that you think they are slime, talk about them but don't link.
Do you have a linking strategy? Do you only link to certain sites? Do you link to your competitors? Why or why not?
What does a link tell you?
