Six Apart Reportedly Selling Live Journal to Russian-based SUP
Michael Arrington reports that San Francisco-based Six Apart has sold it's LiveJournal blog authoring service to SUP, a Russian-based social media company. LiveJournal, first published in 1999, is the only one of four Six Apart platforms that was not internally developed.
While Arrington reports LiveJournal sales in the past year have been stagnant, I do not think that is true in Russia. While researching the SAP Global Report, I was told that LiveJournal is growing at a brisk rate in Russia to well over a million users, mostly adult. Russians have figured out that it is very difficult for the government to monitor what they say. That may be, in art, because the servers are currently located in the US.
