A few weeks ago, I decided to get better informed on the subject of online video. I am leaning toward the opinion that the web of the not-too-distant future will be much more video-based than text. i think YouTube is a fascinating starting point, but it is just that--a starting point.
I am interested in where video is going as a personal either a personal or a business communications tool. To get more information on this subject than i could possibly digest, I simply started a Google Alert for "online video." I can best describe the results as, "my cup overfloweth."
With that Biblical reference, i take you to the Catholic Church who is using online video, according to the National Catholic Register in some pretty innovative ways. It reports, "through YouTube and other media, Catholics have been able to spread the faith,
provide historical footage and draw attention to liturgical abuses."`
Churches, my friend Brian Bailey taught me, when I interviewed him for naked Conversations, know a great deal about evangelism and they are often early to embrace the newest tools. I am no expert, and I rarely have viewed the Catholic Church as particularly evangelical in the US these days. But it is absolute in its abilities to communicate to its members.
As i continue to examine this category, I'm sure it will continue to surprise me. It has started and is already integrating itself into the lives of everyday people in ways that three weeks ago, i did not even imagine.

"Churches (...) are often early to embrace the newest tools"
There they have something in common with the p\orn industry.
