Hitachi Lunch 2.0: Flickr Clickrs & Artists

I was among more than 100 social media enthusiasts to attend Lunch 2.0 at Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) today. The event, first of its kind for Hitachi, was the brainchild of my pal Jeremiah Owyang who has some great community-building instincts.

His idea was just to get members of the community to come in, hang out, see some cool company demos and have lunch. People left understanding that when they succeed at whatever they are currently struggling to do they will need to store massive stacks of data. And when they do, Hitachi will be the first name to come to mind.

Well done, Jeremiah it was a nice crowd.

I was one of a number of people walking around with a small digital camera. I call us the Flickr clickrs. We come, we snap and we post. What is often humbling is the work of two artists, Scott Beale of Laughing Squid and Thomas Hawk who are so often present at events such as these.. Here's Scott trying to make a surrealistic pattern out of some Laughing Squid stickers. Thomas HawkHe eventually gave up because he couldn't block the glare on one of the 12 stickers from an overhead light.

Just look at what Scott took here.[Make sure you drill into his second page of them as well.] I can stand side-by-side with either of them, point and shoot at the same subject in the same light with the same shutter speed. i produce some neat snapshots. They produce these works of wonderment. I'm in awe of both their talents.

Okay, I'm mostly a words person anyhow. But if each photo is worth 10,000 words, these guys are going to quickly bankrupt me.

Hi Jim,
I've heard about the radio sites. Cork is one of the tightest tech communities I've seen. All they need is some smart--or stupid--money.

That's one of the best photos of me when I forgot to take my meds.

Holly takes better videos than I take pics. She's created a video of the event. Shel you can see us talking with my VP of Marketing.

I love the fact that we could host an event for a community and they give back using social media. The world is so connected now and everyone can produce..

That photo of Jermiah is so awesome! I think you should use it as your blog photo ;)

Hah, I'm worried I may scare off the other half that has yet to figure out that I can actually have some fun!
