Jane Genova, who has previously said some very kind things about this blog, thinks I've gone off on the wrong track lately. She's not interested in my laments about canceled trips and declarations that I am available for consulting.
She wants me to stick to matters that are useful or interesting to her and likens me to the bloggers of yore who wrote about how many cups of coffee they had today. Says Jane:
As a businessperson trying to figure out ecommerce competitive advantages for myself and clients, I get annoyed by Israel's chronicle of personal feelings about such events as a canceled tour and not-enough-assignments. What I need is for Israel and other bloggers to go to the next level: Here are approaches for solving X and Y.
Jane, I'm sorry you feel that way, I really am. I suggest that you might just skip the posting that you don't care for, which is what I do on a great many blogs. As for me, that trip was the beginning of my next book. That post was also the fastest way to tell over 100 people that we had hoped to see, that plans were canceled.
As for my occasional self-promotion, I have found it to be an easy way to stir up new business. It may bore you, but it does feed me. How does your tagline about being a speechwriter-ghost writer work for you?

Not that it needs saying, but don't ever let anyone else tell you what to blog about, or what to omit. It's your gig.

So, if I'm whiney and self centered enough to criticize you for failing to serve my needs on demand and resultantly, I say not nice things about you, will you do a similar favor for me by announcing it to the world and then perhaps, I'll get lucky when everybody comes traipsing over into my corner of it?
TMI? Here? I don't think many would agree with that assessment. I mean, have you ever even posted any cat pictures? I think cat pictures are obligatory on a blog. Even I have cat pictures on mine. Not TMI tho, my views tend to piss people off.

Shel, you have a point: Value and enjoyment are in the eye of the reader. And since you have many readers, far more than my blog, you are meeting their needs.
I will follow your advice and skip what doesn't interest me or what's not useful to me on NakedConversations.com. I have you and Robert bookmarked to provide me with up-to-date information and insight on the blogosphere.
Side Note: Thanks for posting on my point of view and driving traffic to my blog.

Kathleen,
If you scroll back a few postings, you'll see a picture of my dog Brewster. Just because you requested it, I'll try to post a picture of my cat Kinko smetime in the near future.

So, since we are all promoting here, I wonder if anyone might be interested in reading my post "Adage Affirmation"... about that old saying, "if you're bored, it's because..." Okay. Sorry. I just couldn't resist. :)
Anyhow, promotion aside, I think it's important to include a variety of posts on one's blog... different people have different types of "entry points." Also, posting the "human" stuff does humanize the whole bloggy thing.
