Scoble, Babe Ruth and Chihuahuas
When Babe Ruth led both leagues in home runs, he also led the American League in strike outs. They are of little matter. What's important is the glorious way he hit it out of the park more often than anyone else did for over 50 years.
But this posting is not about Babe Ruth It's about Robert Scoble who has hit it out of the blogosphere park more times than most people can even dream about.
I don't mind people disagreeing with Scoble. Hell, I disagree with him just about every time we talk. But it's over the small stuff, the hair-splitting stuff and the trivia. To me, the important thing about Scoble is that he figured out how to put a human face on a corporation. This is extremely important. What's more important is his transparent desire to tell other people what he's done and how he's done it. His contributions through his blog, his public talks and his private conversations. His fine thinking is at the core of Naked Conversations and it has shaped my commitment and approach to the blogosphere on a personal level.
It seems to me that their is a pack of yelping, mutant Chihuahuas that go for his buttocks every time Robert has something to say. These mongrel strains of Chihuahua don't have the collective power to damage Robert's credibility and stature but they can be annoying as Hell and perhaps as disruptive as ants on a picnic.
The have the right to do what they do and Robert of course will be among the first to defend that right. But somehow, I wish they would sit down and shut up until they come up with an original, constructive thought of their own--but that probably will not occur for them until long from now and far into the future.
Keep it up, Robert. There are a great many of us who respect and appreciate you. Chihuahuas have short lives you know.

all Leaders are prone to 'character assassination' - Robert is no different, much more so, as this is the blogsphere and news travels as fast as the bandwidth delivers it !!

Don't mind the little dogs. It's far easier to take a cheap shot at a high profile target like Robert than it is to intelligently refute any argument the Scobleizer might make.
And given he personally answers the vast majority of his critics, empty 'character assassination' looks like schoolyard antics in the face of his elegant authenticity.
But you are right Shel - it's a mongrel breed of troll.

Scoble makes me smarter. That's all I care about.
I am not sure about the switchback on first vs right though....
You don't have to be right, out of the blocks. its impossible to be perfect. As long as you're willing to change your analysis when the facts change.

And it's easier to attack Scoble and get a link out of him than to compose a brainy, sensible post !
I think link-hate is what drives these people !

One could argue he brought it on himself... Rather than encourage disruptive ants on a picnic, why not ignore them? Or better yet, move your picnic off the ground where the ants are and on to a picnic table above them? You see? Taking the high road is better. Outsmarting a Chihuahua is a good thing. Taunting them is bad. This particular post in which Robert encourages the "venom to flow" was a really poor move on his part. People who represent companies are held to a higher standard whether they like it or not. Childish antics make someone who is obviously smart and insightful look ridiculous. It is time Robert get back to what he does well. Microsoft's inside voice needs to start writing about Microsoft not himself.
