The Anointing of the Tagosphere
I'm just back from a meeting with Riya, planning for their launch at Demo. Munjal had some great financial news, but I'll bite my tongue and not scoop a client, which often proves unwise. But during our talk, Tara referred to Riya as a "Tagosphere company."
I had not heard the word before, but I instantly loved it. I like words whose meaning become self-evident when you first ere them. Riya is part of a rapid forming sector of Web 2.0, which enable people to find what they are looking for very easily. For some reason, lots of people think tagging is something technically complex, but it is not.
Riya is a tagosphere company because it makes finding your kids photo as simple as finding his or her shirt at summer camp, once you've sewn a name tag into the collar.
What I didn't like is that she knew the word and I didn't. I try to keep up. I try to be as cool and hip as all these Web 2.0 youngsters. But I tend to nod off every now and then--so I missed the anointing of the tagosphere.
I think in late dec/05, wink.com coined the phase. "... Wink lets you search across the Tagosphere. "

Anyway, whoever and however they did come up of the word, I think it's cool. I'll be adding it on my vocabulary list.

Hey, Award-winning body. Thanks for the comment. Maybe you can Award Tagosphere as the Word of the Year. But, there's just one thing. I'd really appreciate you're using a real name so that I knw you want to contribute to this conversation rather than tour your own site. I usually take down comments that are anonymous or use aliases and next time I will take you don, despite the fact that I liked what you said.

i am looking forward to seeing the first professional tag gardeners emerge. like plants tags are emergent, open to hybridisation, and may require stewardship to grow and put roots down. help the darwinian process.
just like there are professional bloggers i am pretty sure some parties will emerge that get paid for their abilities.
like Seth Godin talking about "myware" rather than "spyware". then he has a community to help nail the concept.
are industry analysts tag gardeners? that is certainly a role Gartner plays.
I guess i should blog this idea.

Hey Shel...Don't worry, you're still cool in my book. It's tough to beat Tara to the punch. Keep up the great work.
