Scoble and I manage to find the silliest things to disagree about. Maybe we still are the Odd Couple I labeled us back at the beginning of this project. He keeps setting up these incredible meetups all over the place and he's started dragging me to them as he did last Saturday night in Palo Alto. Invariably, I have a time ranging from good to great n the rating system. There is nothing like a face to face meeting and bloggers have so much common culture and shared ground.
My resistance is that this guy who bills himself as 'Microsoft's Geek Blogger ' insists on calling these events "Geek" dinners and I am not a geek. I don't really speak geek that well and I'd prefer to learn how to speak French or Italian before geek. I think Scoble likes the word because it extends his personal brand.
I am a blogger, and love to go to blogger dinners. meet all sorts of fold there, PR people, charming lawyers, investors, marketing folk. They talk about lots of things using a common English language for the most part. I like the idea that the blogosphere cloud is ever expanding and more-and-more people with an increasingly diverse mix of interests are joining in. I would like to have dinner with them.
To include them and me more, all you have to do is call the events "Blogger Dinners," not "Geek Dinners." I suggest that if you agree with me, you should post comments wherever you please on Scoble's Blog . However, if yo choose to actually write about this burning issue, please link to me, not him.
I need them more than he does, and as Richard Edelman will tell you, links are very important to me.
