I got a very interesting email from Orvitz this morning, interesting for lots of reasons. It makes mention of my upcoming trip to Paris (for Les Blogs), and assures me that the US State Department has ascertained that tourists are not being targeted and that the central portion of Paris is almost entirely unaffected.
What interests me the most is that I'm pretty certain I did not use Orvitz for my travel arrangements. I booked my flights directly from Air France. I'm using bonus points to stay three nights in a posh Marriott, and then I'm moving in to a nice three star that Loic recommended and I emailed.
So how does Orvitz know I'm going to Paris? Yeah, I use them. I may have even done some research on Orvitz. And I thank my State Department for the reassurance. But I feel Paris is safe because Loic--someone I know and trust says it's safe. He's there. Assurances from Orvitz and my State Department remain of dubious distinction if you ask me.
