CNN has announced the game-maker Electronic Arts has settled it's lawsuit for $15.6 million, considerably more than just paying the developers the overtime they deserved in the first place.
Naked Conversations covered Electronic Arts in Chapter 10--Doing it Wrong. At the time, we wrote the EA has
"... allowed a deep hole to be dug under them. We don’t think it had to be that way. When the story first broke [in a disgruntled spouse's blog in December 2004], they could have responded by expressing sympathy and regret about the situation. They could have turned to their own employees and asked how they felt about working there. They could have explained why conditions were the way they were and how the company hoped to improve them. They could have joined a [blogosphere] conversation that would have at least showed some sympathy to an unfortunate situation, perhaps diffusing the explosive situation. By ignoring it altogether, they will suffer for a long time to come."
The cost in dollars: $15.6 million. The cost to EA's reputation: priceless.
