Acknowledgement--Thanks to You All
We would like to thank all of the people who gave us constructive input through the blogosphere in the last six months. It is logitically a daunting task and below is draft #1. It includes most of you who left us comments. As we completed it, we realized that we had not followed track backs.
Also, we eliminated any Comments that were not clearly from real humans. If you left an email and no URL, we eliminated the email address, but will restore it upon your request. If we overlooked you, please let us know. There is still time to add names. If you gave us a link and missed you, please also tell us and we will add you in.
Also, this chapter needs to be edited into hardcopy so the links are to the right of your name, rather than hyperlinked.

great job, guys. congrats on pushing it through.

I'm honored to have helped in any way. I wish
I just wish I could've been more active in the latter-half of development.
Posted by: Evan Erwin | August 25, 2005 at 01:45 PM
I must say I'm quite amazed that you thank me for the comments I posted.
I think most of the comments were constructive, sometimes defending you fellers or the blogosphere against what I perceived as unfair and unintelligent attacks, or just whatever insight I thought I had from my years as a direct marketer and web usability analyst.
Sometimes I was extremely argumentative, harsh, and close to bursting into flames.
But your best interests were always in my heart, and the honor of the core values of blogging were my battle cry.
Thanks again for acknowledging the efforts and input of so many. I discovered some really sharp thinkers here at this blog.
This blog has been far and away the blog I visited more than any other. I made sure I checked it two, three, or more times every single day, up until a few weeks ago or so.
Your referer logs should bear that out.
I learned more here than any other marketing blog, from both posts and comments.
This is where the real blogocombat and vital issues have been pounded out. Some got clobbered, all got smarter.
Now us inputers need to help you fellers sell this book.
Count me in.
Email me or post to this blog any promo instructions.
Cheers, good friends!

As I said on the phone Shel, awesome idea and execution. Can you remove the "C." from my name? I no longer use it. Thanks and many, many congratulations!

You are very welcome and congrats! It was a pleasure being subjected to your interview ;)

Evan,
We were afraid we lost you in the 2nd half. I hope you were busy with rewarding things.
Posted by: shel Israel | August 25, 2005 at 03:30 PM
Steve Streight,
Thanks for the unchaacteristically kind words. Your comments made us grit our teeth from time to time, but you served as a conscience. You also were instrumental in not letting us give our book a lame name and we thank you for it.
Posted by: shel Israel | August 25, 2005 at 03:33 PM
Jeremy,
I have already made the C-change.
Posted by: shel Israel | August 25, 2005 at 03:34 PM
Shel: this has been a beloved blog.
Okay, I'll admit it: my favorite blog. I spent more time at this blog than I did at my own. So I guess that makes us even in a convoluted way.
I can't help my Positive Hate abrasiveness. When I was born in Ft. Knox Army hospital, delivered by a Colonel, he dropped me on my head, so the legend has it, and my head with me along with it, bounced like a flubberized basketball.
Seriously, I believe we need to fight against what is evil, stupid, mediocre. My style is not for everyone, but it serves a purpose. At least I'd like to think so.
Thank you for the compliments. It's been a real pleasure to contribute a few thoughts here and there to this terrific project, a pioneering milestone in the history of the blogosphere.
Few would be brave enough to attempt to pull it off.

Congrats Shel! Looking forward to the book!!

Likewise, Steve. Likewise.

Phshew, Shel. What an unbelievably generous gesture from you and Robert. It really didn't even enter my mind that I might get an acknowledgement from you in the book! That's massively cool of you. Thankyou.
Blue skies
love

Congratulations are in order. As one blogger observed this week (Jeff Jarvis?) - 'Distribution is not king. Content is not king. Conversation is the kingdom'
You Shel and Robert have a knack for exchanging ideas and creating room for different sets of concepts.
You both are leaders and dealers in hope ;-)
It is indeed an honour to have the Dragon listed among the selected heavyweights inside the world of blogging ...

Rock on, Shel and Robert. An impressive piece of work, done for all the right reasons.

Thanks Robert & Shel great to help you. look forward to seeing you on the book signing tours - hopefully in Cambridge UK
Posted by: Geoff | August 26, 2005 at 03:54 AM
The approach of publishing draft chapters and getting feedback was an interesting one. Far from making people feel they've already read the book, and don't need to buy it, I think you've created a group that now feels a stake in the success of the book and its ideas.
Now, get to work on a Flash animation of the two of you signing books, so you can do it virtually and save yourselves the gruelling book promotion tour!

Thanks! Much appreciated.

Yes, innovation now in the promotion and marketing of the book that is an innovative work about an innovative phenomenon: the weblog.
When do the action figures come out, and the blockbuster film version?

Shel... Honored for having helped such a book !
Posted by: Loic | August 26, 2005 at 01:25 PM
Shel/ Robert,
Not really sure if you both have just raised the bar on collobration and communties at large. Initally the very concept of open book content being "webified" prior to publishing seemed out of wack, not only for authors , but the publisher too. IMHO, these efforts (blogging about the book/content) not only brings collobartion amongst the community, it just created a new paradigm of "community of conversations" - from communities of practices, learning, knowledge-- you both have created a "community of converstion". In my observation this concept is deeply embedded in the "cluetrain". While it was greatly talked about for many years, the first real model and deliverable that I am seeing is right here at this blog and the book.
I think what's more important then the book is the underlying principles that drove us (community) to clearly participate and have a new experince.
Coming out of this experine to me means that if I See another book by either of you, my hands will itch to buy a copy !!
Does anyone else feel the same way ??
Posted by: /pd | August 26, 2005 at 03:20 PM
Pete,
Thanks for those very kind and flattering words. Cluetrain was daunting for us at first, because we knew we couldn't really say what we had to say better than they did it six years ago. But we could bring in cases that made it more current and pragmatic, because so much has happened in six years. If you recall, I was appalled at first about making the project so transparent. Robert "outed me" back at the beginning. Now I am in absolute awe of what the blogosphere did for this project. I'm further in awe of how this project forever changed me.

I was surprised to be included in the acknowledgements for my tiny comment contribution, but this demonstrates the whole principle of the Long Tail of comments, and the tiny effort it takes to thank those in the tail delivers so much value.
I realize that I originally didn't sign my comment with my last name so it doesn't show in the acknowledgements. If it's not too late, it'd be nice to see it updated, but no worries if it doesn't happen.
Will there be a book-signing tour? Any chance there'll be a stop in New Jersey or New York? :-)

Thank you! I read this post and it didn't even strike me to scroll through to see my name (bHan, not baHn) - I'd say you, Shel, helped me more in my early days in the blogosphere by sharing your insights and guiding me kindly than any thing I could have said.
Again, dhanyavad
